consumer behavior

to me the most important thing in consumer behavior is value. the diffenrecne between perceived value And actual value doesn’t matter; the consumer will look for the best value and buy that product. This applies to low and high involvement products, if a consumer walks buy a product in a store and it is on sale for 10 for 5 dollars they might just buy it on impulse. Or when a consumer wants to buy a car they look for the car with the best value this doesn’t have to be the least expensive car it could be the most expensive car in the world if it holds the most value for that consumer he will buy it.
Because of the pretty good problem a lot of products are just as good as the others so the value has to be perceived through marketing. Brand named products show value through their brands so they can market their products at a higher price whereas  the quality of generic brand products are valued less by consumers so the product is sold for less.

refernece group

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Mc_e3PQABg&feature=related

The ad I chose to talk about as a reference group is an ad for a Nintendo game, the ad shows two friends sitting on a couch one friend shows the other a new video game. The reference group this ad shows is the friend. The friend in this ad trusts his friend to show him which video games are good and that trust makes it more likely for the friend to buy the certain game.  I think the freind is one of the most powerful refernce groups. People trust there freinds especially freinds they've had their entire lives for this reason markerteers use friends showing freinds new products in their ads in an affective way.

Prizm

I don't fit perfectly into the prizm category the youngest age is 25 so I chose urban achiever which is less than 35 years old. I went with urban achiever because, I'm single i fit the age range and I'm white. At school I live in a multirise but it doesn't really  count because its college dorms. For me and people in their late teens and early twenties Prizm isn't very helpful. probably because we dont really buy much. it makes sense that older adults are the ones being categorized

Southington CT  big fish small pond, bright lits lil city, country squires, gods country, middleburg managment, when I look through all of these I can think of specific people in my town who fit all of them my father is probably middleburg management he fits the categories the age range is right he's a store manager, and he's empty nesting.

Idendtity

I'm going to refer once again back to YMCA Camp Sloper, my identity is with the YMCA I consider myself a YMCA camp counselor. I wear my Camp cloths whenever I get a chance because they remind me of the summer and the good times that I've had. we get two staff shirts per session plus hoodies you can buy and pinnies which I started this summer. all in all I have about thirty articles of clothing which I acuired over the last 7 years. If i lost those aritcles of clothing it would be like losing a piece of myself.

Framing

I don't purchase many things so I'm not going to talk about something I've bought, but I want to talk about the way some businesses market their products with framing that may be unethical. one current example of this that makes me furious is the taco bell drive through diet. that commercial is attempting to get people to think that taco bell is healthy and I'm sure people have said after that commercial its ok its part of the drive through diet because their frame of ming is this is healthy. well i've got news for you if your getting nachos and a soda to it's not healthy. that goes for any other fast food establishment that claims to have healthy items on the menu as well.

the other example I think of is a few years ago when tobacco companies made cigarettes out to be cool, there not cool the make you smell and can give you cancer, but peoples believed smoking them made you cool.

YMCA camp sloper

There is a group that I am apart of that is very important to me, that is counselors at YMCA camp sloper. we have a logo that we wear on our shirts which is a sunsetting over a pond with a turtle. the logo also features the the YMCA logo, this is very important to our shirts becuase it lets people know that we are affiliated with the YMCA. the logo also sports the camp slogan; fun, adventure, tradtion. letting people know what to expect when they come to our camp.

our shirts are also bright orange thats important becuase in my town when people see the color orange they think camp sloper, so becuase we want to be a good model for our brand we have to be carful about where we wear our shirts, for example we told never to go to a bar or package store wearing any sloper clothing.

the pretty good problem

I haven't purchased much recently the one thing i have purchased was a new laptop. I chose to get a dell, my name is Barry and I'm a pc. I can say that because every laptop i've had has been a pc and I identify them as a better brand of laptop. pcs are remarkable to me because for one thing their easier to use, that could be becuase I'm used to them but I stick with it for that reason. the other reason i like pcs better is their size my laptop is hugh and i like that better than the pocket laptops apple makes. for the most part all laptops can do the same thing but I would rather have a pc because to me a pc is better
